Type Locality and Naming

The naming section is located near Liuniu southeast of Nalou, Tiandong County, Bose basin, Guangxi. Named by Ding Suyin et al. in 1976.


Lithology and Thickness

Piedmont and fluvio-lacustrine red and purplish red clastic rocks. The composition of clasts is complex and varies from place to place. Lower part is coarse-grained, dominated by conglomerate and sandy conglomerate; Upper part is fine-grained, consisting predominantly of mudstone, sandy mudstone and pebbly sandstone. The thickness is only 60 m at the naming section, while in the Nanning basin the thickness may reach 100–200 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is unconformable with the underlying Triassic Ping’erguan Gr (Pingerguan Gr).

Upper contact

It has a disconformable contact with the overlying Eocene Dongjun Fm.

Fossils

This formation contains such ostracods as Limnocythere sp., Eucypris sp. and Ilyocypris errabundis. For vertebrate fossils, only a new genus and species (Lacertidae gen. et sp. nov.) of lizards was found.
